Keeping your students engaged during virtual learning certainly isn’t easy. Who wants to sit behind a device, especially on party day?! It’s important that our little learners are up and moving. Even though our students may be learning from a distance, we can still create a memorable and engaging virtual Valentine’s Day party!

Virtual Valentine’s Day Party Scavenger Hunt
Because of its interactive nature, a scavenger hunt is a virtual Valentine’s Day party idea that will definitely hold our little learners’ interest. Challenge them to find items around their home that meet a certain condition… i.e. something you love. I like to integrate a little math and literacy into each challenge, so that we are reviewing previously learned skills. Don’t forget to have them put their items away after a few challenges!
Virtual I Spy
Virtual “I Spy” is a great game to play when your students have their cameras turned on. Start by saying, “I spy with my little eye someone…” and describe a student. Choose volunteers to guess which student you are describing. You could also have the students be “the spy.”
Guess Who
Similar to “I Spy” is this fun game of virtual “Guess Who!” This is a great way to build oral language skills. Secretly choose a Valentine’s Day character on the gameboard. Have the students ask yes/no questions. Learning how to ask questions, rather than tell a story, is such an important skill for our young learners. Remove the characters that do not belong. Continue having the students ask questions and removing the characters that do not match until just one character is left.
Lovely Charades
A good old fashioned game of “Charades” is the perfect way to get your students up and moving during your virtual Valentine’s Day party. To play, you can privately message a student a Valentine’s inspired action in the chat box on your video conferencing platform. Choose students to try to guess the action. Then, have the entire class complete that motion once they have guessed correctly.
Cupid Says
“Cupid Says” (a.k.a. Simon Says) makes a great brain break that will keep everyone moving in between activities. Plus, it helps promote good listening skills. Start by saying, “Cupid says” and name an action. For some actions, you will not say “Cupid says.” If Cupid catches any students completing the motion without being told to, they will need to sit. The last student standing wins!
Virtual Valentine’s Day Dance Party
Promote heart healthy choices during your virtual Valentines’ Day party with a dance party. Create a playlist on Amazon, Spotify or YouTube. You could also search for Valentine’s Day themed songs that include movement activities on YouTube. Then, turn up these lovely hits and watch your little love bugs dance!

Turn your dance party into a virtual Valentine’s Day party sing along! Here are a few of my favorite Valentine’s Day songs for kids:

Cupid’s Cam Mystery Photos
“Cupid’s (magic) Cam” is sure to entice your little learners during your virtual Valentine’s Day party! For this game, the students will see a zoomed-in portion of a larger picture. They will try to guess the picture based on this small glimpse, as well as three clues. The mystery picture will be revealed on the last slide.
Valentine’s Day Directed Drawing
A directed drawing is one of the easiest activities to include in your virtual Valentine’s Day party. You could have your students draw a love bug, rose, love monster or Cupid. Simply share your screen to display each step, or model the steps on a piece of chart paper. Once the students have completed all of the steps, they can color or paint their drawing after the live meeting.
Virtual Read Aloud
Begin or end your party with a virtual Valentine’s Day read aloud. You can read the book during your live session, or you can search for a digital read aloud on Epic, YouTube or Vooks. Here’s a short list of some of my favorite books for Valentine’s Day:

Cupid Caper CVC Word Building Game
The sneaky Cupid Caper stole all of the Valentine’s Day gifts from Cupid and mixed up the boxes! Now, Cupid needs our assistance! Help the mail carrier know what’s inside the box by dragging the letters into the correct order to build each word.
Virtual Valentine’s Day Party Cards
Use Jamboard or Google Slides to have your students send virtual Valentine’s Day cards to each other. Simply add a board or slide for each student in your classroom, and share the link with your class. This will be a collaborative project, so the students will be able to write a message on each student’s board or slide.
