The best Homemade Guacamole recipe is on the chunky side with a few fresh ingredients like tomatoes, jalapeno, onions, lime, and cilantro. I could eat fresh guacamole every day of my life and it’s easier to make than you think! This Mexican dip recipe is similar to the Chipotle guacamole.

The Best Guacamole Recipe (Easy) - The Girl Who Ate Everything (1)

AUTHENTIC GUACAMOLE RECIPE

I love avocados. My mom used to spoon feed them to me as a baby. Even now, I’ll sprinkle some salt on and avocado and eat it with a spoon.

An avocado is technically a fruit and of course my favorite “fruit” is the one with the most calories and fat. Good fat they say. Whatever makes me feel better.

I was craving homemade guacamole dip and whipped up some to go with these Honey Lime Enchiladas. I know everyone likes their guacamole different but this is how we like ours.

To make homemade guacamole easy, if I’ve made a batch of this Pico De Gallo, I’ll just mash some avocados and throw some of that in since it’s basically the same. I like a simple guacamole recipe.

Sometimes I add some finely diced jalapeno for some heat but most of the time I leave it out. It’s even Keto friendly.

GUACAMOLE INGREDIENTS

The ingredients in guacamole are very simple but make the best guacamole ever:

  • ripe avocados – the richness of the avocado makes a big difference in the flavor of the guac.
  • onion – I like to use red onion but white onion can be used as well.
  • fresh cilantro
  • lime – fresh lime juice gives the guac bright flavor and helps it not to oxidize and turn brown. You could also use lemon juice.
  • garlic – fresh garlic cloves are best but garlic powder can be used as well.
  • salt and pepper – kosher salt and black pepper are essential.
  • (additional ingredients) jalapeno pepper, tomatoes

HOW DO YOU MAKE GUACAMOLE:

1) Halve each avocado and remove the pit. 2) Scoop out the avocado flesh with a spoon. 3) Then coarsely chop it.
In a medium bowl, slightly mash the avocado with a fork (I’m not a fan of using a potato masher) then add onion, tomato (optional), cilantro, garlic and some lime. Then salt and pepper it to taste.

There you go! This easy guacamole recipe that you can put on burritos, enchiladas, tacos, or my favorite – with chips.

HOW TO PICK AN AVOCADO:

1) You can either buy a hard avocado that is green and let it ripen at home or buy them ripe at the store. Ripe avocados will be dark in color.

2) Ripe avocados will be tender to the touch. Mushy avocados are overripe. It should give a little bit but not too much. It should feel like the palm of the bottom of your hand.

HOW TO STORE GUACAMOLE SO IT DOESN’T BROWN

Here’s the secret. Cover your bowl of guacamole with a piece of plastic wrap so the plastic wrap is touching the surface of the guacamole everywhere with no air pockets. If no air gets in, it will not oxidize and turn brown.

I like my Homemade Guacamolerecipe on the chunky side with a few tomatoes, jalapeno, onions, lime, and cilantro.

PrintPinRate

Prep Time: 10 minutes mins

Total Time: 10 minutes mins

Servings: 8 servings

Ingredients

  • 4 ripe Hass avocados
  • 1/2 cup red onion, diced finely
  • optional 2 roma tomatoes (seeded and diced finely)
  • 1/4 - 1/2 cup cilantro, chopped finely
  • 1 lime, juiced
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • optional 1/2 jalapeno, seeded and diced finely

Instructions

  • Cut avocados in half and remove pit. Scoop out flesh of avocado and coarsely chop it. Place in a large bowl and slightly mash with a fork. I like mine on the chunky side. Add the diced onion, tomatoes, cilantro, and garlic and toss together with the avocados. If you like your guacamole on the spicy side add some diced jalapeno here.

  • Add the lime juice, salt, and pepper to taste.

  • Chill until serving. If not serving right away place saran wrap directly against the guacamole so that it does not oxidize and turn brown. Serve with tortilla chips.

When I make guacamole, I use Pace Mild Salsa, lime juice, dash of garlic powder, dash of chili powder, a couple of small scoops of sour cream to make it creamy. I have never had any leftover and my friends beg for more. With the Pace Mild Salsa, it cuts down on the chopping of tomatoes and onions, but already has the cilantro in it. I guess you could call it the lazy way of making guacamole.

Yes! Definitely a good hack. I do that when I’m short on time.

        Christy Denney,
I also put diced up chunks of mango and diced up peaches in my guacamole. I love and make mango salsa also. So good when you spread on your tacos or enchiladas . Yummy!

I like how you tweaked it to suit your taste. I;’m going to use avocado salsa & see how it turns out. I;m not a huge fan of some of the other ingredients so this is a great way to try recipes like you did.

Love love love guacamole but can we please leave out the cilantro? I would just as soon eat soapy grass. Or can we at least recognize that MANY people just hate it? Love to go to a restaurant where they make guacamole at the table. Easy to ask to add the cilantro last so we cilantro haters can get our guac before it is added.

    • Christy Denney Reply

You can definitely leave it out. I heard it’s actually genetic. Some people taste cilantro as soapy.

Just made a big bowl, identical except I add cumin and use a touch of cayenne powder instead of messing with a pepper.. My avocado tree is done for this year, so this might be the last free batch!

At the risk of sounding like a freaky food nerd – Avocados contain mono-unsturated fatty acids (MUFA for short). That’s the fat that attacks stored belly fat. It’s also in olives, nuts, and oils. Basically, we like mufa’s. Mufa’s are our friends!

    @Jill,
Thanks for the warning. Does it help if I balance out the salt with a bunch of sugar! JK. I have had friends with preclampsia and it is definitely no fun and dangerous. I will try to lighten up on the salt…

Just a suggestion-be careful with loading on the salt while being pregnant. Salt can make you swell and just also not sure if I mentioned but check out preeclampsia.org.

I had preeclampsia twice, got very sick in my f irst pregnancy and was able to get further on in my 2nd. best of luck to you mama! thanks for sharing!

The guacamole I make most often has three ingredients and I eat it all in one sitting by myself: 1 avocado, 1 roma tomato and 2 minced cloves garlic. But sometimes I get fancy and add jalapeno, onion and a little lime juice. Yours looks good for when I’m not so lazy!

  37. Rosabella Reply

Here’s a little trick that a good friend of mine taught me. Put the pit back into the guac so that it doesn’t turn brown. It works (even better than lime juice)!

    • krystina bibb Reply

I’m glad I’m not the only one that does this cause everytime I make it and people eat it they look at me funny cause the pits are in it!! It really does work. My mom does this, My grandma does it and now I do it…..
