I don’t remember much from Girl Guides when I was a kid, but I DO remember how they made maple-glazed breakfast sausages for breakfast when we were camping! You slowly cook pork breakfast sausages in a butter maple syrup sauce, then serve.

This is literally the easiest and most delicious way to cook sausage for breakfast or brunch, unless of course, you whip up some air fryer sausage patties!

Quick and Easy Breakfast Sausage Recipe

This literally came about this morning when I went to cook some pork breakfast sausages and wanted to spice them up a little. I started brainstorming and a memory just hit me: I could see those large aluminum pans of breakfast sausage out on the picnic tables when I was camping as a Girl Guide – and I remember how much we all loved those first thing in the morning!

Now I’m sure that they used “maple” flavored pancake syrup because those sausages were swimming in syrup and real maple syrup is expensive. However we are cooking these breakfast sausages in a small batch for a family, so we can splurge on real maple syrup. This is the adult version of what we ate camping as kids.

Glazed Pork Sausage Ingredients

This is really the easiest recipe to make!

  • pork breakfast sausages – whatever brand you love the best. This won’t work with Italian spiced sausages, the sweet won’t match the savory in those
  • maple syrup –real is the best! We get ours at Costco
  • brown sugar –dark or golden sugar works
  • salted butter – the salt is important, if you use unsalted then add a pinch of salt
  • optional : cinnamon, sprinkle of nutmeg – these are all spices that go well with pork

How to Make Glazed Pork Breakfast Sausages

This is so easy you could prep this the night before (on a holiday for example) and leave it in the fridge. The butter would harden, but you are popping it into the oven to bake anyways!

  1. Mix together the sauce ingredients
  2. Place the sausages in a pan
  3. Pour the sauce over the sausages
  4. Bake at 400°F until cooked through and the sauce has reduced

Karlynn’s Tips and Tricks

  • Add in cinnamon to taste ( start with 1/8 tsp) and some nutmeg if desired. You have to love those spices with pork otherwise don’t add them!
  • ANYTHING maple syrup is made better with some red pepper flakes! Sweet heat is the best!
  • Use the syrup that the sausages cook in as a real syrup on your pancakes – it’s the best of all worlds!

Recipes to Pair with the Sausages

This is a sweeter recipe and you can USE THE SAUCE AS A SYRUP so it works the best when you are making:

  • pancakes– check out my entire category of pancakes recipes. We had ours this morning with buttermilk pancakes!
  • French toast– check out my entire category of French toast recipes. including a peanut butter and jam one!
  • waffles– check out my entire category of waffle recipes, including Belgian waffles and a classic waffle recipe!

Now don’t let me stop you from making these and pairing them with eggs and toast, you do you!

Happy cooking! Who else remembers those pans of sausage from Cub Scouts, or Girl Guides? We can’t have been the only ones that ate them!

Love,

Karlynn

Ingredients

  • 1-2 pounds uncooked pork breakfast sausages
  • 1 cup maple syrup
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons salted butter
  • pinch cinnamon, nutmeg optional

Instructions

  • Place the pork sausages in the bottom of a baking pan or dish that thye just fit into. Too large of a baking dish and the sauce won't cover the sausages well.

  • Mix together the sauce ingredients, heating in the microwave to melt the butter and combine the brown sugar in properly.

  • Pour the sauce over the sausages in the pan.

  • Cook – uncovered – in the oven for 35-40 minutes, turning one or two times throughout the cooking process to ensure the sausages are well coated.

  • Remove from the oven and let sit for a few minutes. Serve hot and with the sauce if desired.

Recipe Notes

  • Nutitional information calculates the entire sauce and sausages, which you don’t actually eat all of so the values are much higher than they should be
  • You can make as many sausages as the sauce will cover

Used high quality sausage and doubled recipe for a brunch, prepped the night before as suggested. The sauce was very greasy and watery, and I had to broil the sausage before serving as they were soggy and unappetizing looking. I can’t imagine using that greasy sauce on pancakes or anything else. Maybe it only works on sausage with a bunch of starch fillers in it? A waste of maple syrup and of sausages to me.Maple Glazed Breakfast Sausage Recipe (12)
